History of FNC Network

The FNC Network history began with six freight forwarding professionals in Singapore in 2004.

International freight forwarding runs on rates, routes and reliability. But behind every successful shipment is something even more important: trust between people in different countries.

That belief is at the heart of FNC Network.

What began in Singapore in 2004 with just six freight forwarding professionals has grown into an international freight forwarder network connecting hundreds of logistics companies across more than 100 countries.

The idea from the beginning was simple.

Create a close professional community where independent freight forwarders could know their overseas partners personally, exchange business, support one another and build relationships that lasted far beyond a single shipment.

More than two decades later, that original philosophy still shapes FNC Network.

Meet the person. Build the relationship. Develop the business.

What Is FNC Network?

FNC Network is an international freight forwarding network connecting independent freight forwarders and logistics companies across more than 100 countries. It focuses on trusted business relationships, international partner connections, face-to-face conferences, member verification, business introductions and payment protection to support cooperation between members.

FNC was never designed to become simply another online directory filled with thousands of company names.

Its founders wanted something more personal.

They wanted members to know who they were doing business with.

They wanted an overseas partner to feel like an extension of your own organisation rather than an unknown company at the other end of an email.

That principle became the foundation of FNC:

Trust. Relationships. Business. Support.

How This Freight Forwarder Network Started in Singapore

FNC Network began in Singapore in 2004.

Six founding members came together with a shared vision: to create a close, friendly and professional network for freight forwarders who wanted to develop international business through genuine relationships.

The emphasis was on quality of connection rather than simply increasing membership numbers.

A freight forwarder in one country often depends heavily on another forwarder thousands of miles away. That partner may handle customs procedures, arrange delivery, communicate with consignees, collect payments or solve urgent problems.

Trust matters.

The original FNC members understood that companies work more confidently together when the people behind those companies know each other.

That is why FNC began to describe itself not simply as a business network, but as an extended professional family.

Mumbai 2005: The First FNC International Conference

Just one year after FNC was established, the network took an ambitious step.

In 2005, FNC organised its first international freight forwarding conference in Mumbai, India.

The event was held at the Hilton Hotel in Mumbai.

For an organisation that had started with only six freight professionals, bringing members together for an international conference represented an important moment.

But the purpose was not simply to exchange business cards.

Members sat together.

They learned about each other's companies.

They discussed trade lanes and shipment opportunities.

They began building the personal relationships that could later support international business.

That first meeting established what would become one of FNC Network's strongest traditions:

Face-to-face networking between international freight forwarding professionals.

From Six Members to the First 50

The response to the early FNC model encouraged further expansion.

Following Mumbai, the network returned to Singapore for its second conference.

By this stage, FNC had reached approximately 50 member companies.

It was the network's first major membership milestone.

The growth demonstrated something important about independent freight forwarding.

Forwarders did not simply want access to thousands of names.

They wanted dependable overseas partners.

They wanted someone they could call when a shipment needed urgent attention.

They wanted local companies capable of representing their interests professionally.

And they wanted partners they could confidently introduce to their own customers.

The FNC philosophy could therefore be summed up in one simple idea:

Business follows relationships, and strong relationships begin with trust.

Shanghai and the Expansion Across Asia

As China's role in global manufacturing and international trade continued to grow, FNC selected Shanghai as another major conference destination.

Shanghai connected members with one of the world's most important commercial and logistics centres.

Asia naturally played a major role in the network's early development, with conferences and members across key freight markets.

But FNC did not want its international meetings to remain concentrated in one region.

The ambition was broader.

If the network represented freight forwarding companies around the world, its conferences should travel around the world too.

How FNC Became a Global Freight Forwarder Network

FNC expanded internationally by taking its conferences beyond its original Asian base and bringing independent freight forwarders together in major logistics markets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. This travelling conference model helped members develop personal relationships with overseas partners across multiple regions.

Over the years, the FNC community has met in destinations including:

  • Mumbai
  • Singapore
  • Shanghai
  • Hong Kong
  • Kuala Lumpur
  • Colombo
  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Bangkok
  • Pattaya
  • Phuket
  • Dubai
  • London
  • Barcelona
  • Amsterdam
  • Panama City

The network's journey has also connected its community with important European markets including the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Each conference created a different experience.

But the objective remained consistent: put freight forwarding professionals in the same room and give them the opportunity to build business directly.

Why Face-to-Face Networking Matters in Freight Forwarding

Face-to-face networking helps freight forwarders build confidence in overseas partners before important shipments are entrusted to them. Personal meetings allow companies to understand each other's capabilities, markets and working styles, creating stronger relationships than those developed through emails, telephone calls or online directories alone.

This became a defining feature of FNC conferences.

The events developed around pre-arranged one-to-one business meetings, giving participants focused time with potential international partners.

Formal meetings were combined with networking receptions, dinners, coffee breaks and social programmes.

That informal time often mattered just as much.

A conversation over coffee could lead to a quotation.

A dinner introduction could lead to a new overseas agency relationship.

One meeting could develop into years of cooperation.

In international logistics, personal relationships often create the confidence needed to start doing business.

The FNC Conference Journey

The development of FNC can be traced through its international conference programme.

2005 – 1st FNC Conference: Mumbai, India

The first international gathering established FNC's tradition of bringing freight forwarding professionals together face-to-face.

Early Expansion – Singapore and Shanghai

FNC returned to Singapore and expanded into Shanghai while its membership reached its first major milestone of approximately 50 companies.

2011 – 7th FNC Conference: Singapore

FNC returned to the country where the network began.

The Barcelona meeting strengthened FNC's relationships within the European forwarding market.

2018 – 17th FNC Conference: Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok hosted another major international gathering for members.

2019 – 18th FNC Conference: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

FNC returned to Vietnam as its importance within global supply chains continued to increase.

2019 – 19th FNC Conference: Dubai, UAE

Members once again gathered in one of the world's most internationally connected logistics centres.

2020: FNC Network Moves Its Headquarters to the United Kingdom

The year 2020 marked a major organisational change.

After beginning in Singapore and developing strong roots across Asia, FNC Network shifted its headquarters to the United Kingdom.

The move reflected the increasingly international nature of the organisation.

The UK provided FNC with a base positioned between major markets in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.

It also represented a new stage in the organisation's development.

Singapore was where FNC began. The United Kingdom became the base for its next period of international growth.

Supporting Members Through Global Disruption

The same year brought a challenge few international organisations had anticipated.

Global travel was severely disrupted during 2020.

International conferences were postponed, and the face-to-face meetings on which freight networks traditionally depended became temporarily impossible.

Yet international freight did not stop.

Neither did the relationships between FNC members.

Companies continued communicating across borders, supporting partners and moving shipments during one of the most difficult periods experienced by the global logistics industry.

When international travel resumed, members were ready to meet again.

2022: FNC Returns to Face-to-Face Networking in Phuket

The 20th FNC Conference took place in Phuket, Thailand, in 2022.

It carried significance beyond being another industry conference.

For members, Phuket represented the return of personal meetings after a prolonged period in which international travel had been heavily restricted.

Freight forwarding partners could once again sit across the table from one another.

Professional friendships could reconnect.

New relationships could begin.

The FNC conference tradition was back.

2023: London and Expansion into the United States

The 21st FNC Conference brought the community to London, United Kingdom, returning the network's international meeting programme to Europe.

The same year brought another organisational milestone.

In 2023, FNC established a branch operation in the United States of America.

This gave the organisation a stronger base from which to develop relationships across North America and Latin America.

With operations anchored in the UK and USA, FNC entered another stage of international expansion.

The organisation that began with six people in Singapore now had an operating presence on both sides of the Atlantic.

2024: Dubai and Amsterdam

FNC continued its international conference programme with two important destinations during 2024.

22nd FNC Conference – Dubai

Members gathered at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Deira, connecting companies from Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

23rd FNC Conference – Amsterdam

Later that year, members travelled to the Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre.

The Netherlands is one of Europe's key international logistics gateways, giving the FNC community another opportunity to strengthen partnerships within the European market.

2025: The 24th FNC Conference in Bangkok

In June 2025, FNC hosted its 24th International Freight Forwarders Conference at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel.

By this point, the organisation that began with six professionals had developed into a global community connecting hundreds of freight forwarding companies in more than 100 countries.

Bangkok continued the familiar FNC conference format:

  • Pre-arranged one-to-one meetings
  • International freight forwarding connections
  • Professional networking
  • Social functions
  • Business development discussions
  • Relationship building between decision-makers

The basic principle had not changed since the earliest FNC meetings.

Meet the person. Build the relationship. Develop the business.

2026: FNC Americas Conference in Panama

March 2026 brought the FNC community to Panama City for the FNC Americas Conference, held at the JW Marriott Panama.

The location carried particular relevance for the freight industry.

Home to the Panama Canal, Panama sits at one of the world's most important points for maritime trade.

For FNC, the conference also reflected an increasing focus on developing connections throughout:

North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

It was another indication of how far the organisation had developed from its original six-member group in Singapore.

What Makes FNC Different from a Freight Forwarder Directory?

A directory primarily helps you find company details. FNC Network is designed to help independent freight forwarders develop working relationships with international partners through member connections, direct access to decision-makers, conferences, business introductions, verification processes and support services including payment protection.

This distinction has been important throughout FNC's history.

A large list of freight companies may give you choices.

But when cargo is moving internationally, you need more than a company name.

You need to know who is handling your shipment.

You need confidence that someone will answer when a problem arises.

You need local knowledge.

And you need partners who understand that their service reflects directly on your own company.

That is why FNC has continued to place relationships ahead of numbers.

Supporting Independent Freight Forwarders

As the network has grown, its purpose has remained focused on independent logistics companies.

FNC aims to give members access to international partners while allowing each company to maintain its own identity and independence.

The network supports international cooperation through areas including:

  • Professional freight forwarding connections
  • Member verification
  • International business introductions
  • Pre-arranged one-to-one meetings
  • Global conferences
  • Payment protection
  • Access to international logistics partners
  • Direct networking with owners and senior decision-makers

For a forwarder developing a new trade lane, these connections can provide local representation without the cost of opening an overseas branch.

For an established international forwarder, they can provide additional trusted options in markets where customers require stronger coverage.

Relationships First. Technology Supporting Them.

Freight forwarding has become increasingly digital.

Quotations move faster.

Customers expect greater visibility.

Communication happens instantly.

Partner searches that once took days can now take minutes.

FNC continues to use technology to make it easier for members to identify partners, communicate, exchange opportunities and develop international business.

But technology does not replace the principle on which the organisation was built.

It supports it.

Technology can create a connection. A meeting creates a relationship. Trust creates business.

That combination of digital connectivity and human relationships will continue to influence the next generation of FNC Network.

FNC 25th Anniversary Conference Bali 2027

The FNC 25th Anniversary Conference will take place from 15–17 March 2027 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia. The event will bring together international freight forwarders for pre-arranged one-to-one meetings, networking and business development while celebrating the history and future of the FNC community.

Bali represents the next major milestone in the FNC story.

Members who have been part of the network for many years will have an opportunity to reconnect.

Newer members can build relationships with established partners.

And logistics professionals from different countries will be able to sit together and explore new international business.

The Bali programme will continue the features that have defined FNC conferences:

  • Pre-arranged one-to-one business meetings
  • International freight forwarding connections
  • Face-to-face networking
  • Business development opportunities
  • Professional relationships and friendships
  • The community spirit associated with FNC Network

Importantly, the Bali conference will also welcome non-members.

This gives independent freight forwarding and logistics companies the opportunity to meet international partners, experience the FNC community first-hand and explore whether FNC membership could support their international growth.

Why Relationships Still Matter in Global Logistics

Freight forwarding has changed dramatically since FNC began.

Technology has changed.

Shipping has changed.

Global supply chains have changed.

Customer expectations have changed.

The way freight forwarders communicate has changed.

One principle remains remarkably consistent:

People prefer doing business with people they know and trust.

A freight forwarder may arrange shipments through sophisticated digital systems, but when cargo is delayed, documents are missing, customs raises a question or a customer needs an urgent solution, people still depend on people.

That belief shaped FNC in Singapore.

It continued through Mumbai, Shanghai, London, Dubai, Amsterdam, Bangkok and Panama.

And it remains central as the network moves towards Bali.

The Next Era of FNC Network

The first phase of FNC was about establishing the community.

The next phase took that community around the world.

The years ahead will focus on making the network stronger, better connected and increasingly valuable to independent freight forwarders and logistics service providers.

With its headquarters in the United Kingdom, a presence in the United States, members across more than 100 countries and a long-running international conference programme, FNC has developed a strong base for continued expansion.

The network intends to strengthen representation throughout:

  • Europe
  • North America
  • Latin America
  • Asia
  • The Middle East
  • Africa
  • Oceania

Growth will continue to focus on independent freight forwarding companies seeking reliable international relationships while maintaining their own identity and independence.

Looking for International Freight Forwarding Partners?

If you are an independent freight forwarder or logistics service provider, your international network can directly affect the service you offer customers.

The right overseas partner can help you quote more confidently, enter new markets, manage shipments locally and protect customer relationships.

FNC Network was built around that need.

From six freight professionals meeting in Singapore to a community extending across more than 100 countries, its purpose has remained consistent:

Connect trusted freight forwarders. Build genuine relationships. Support the community. Create international business opportunities. Grow together.

The story started in Singapore.

It has travelled across continents.

And from 15–17 March 2027, the next major gathering will take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia.
